Printers belong to everybody.
The Magpie isn’t ours; it’s yours.
The Magpie
an Open-Source take on Industry leaders
-
The Magpie is a mostly printed machine that seeks to bring some of the design elements of popular brands back to the open-source community.
Like Bambu’s X1, The Magpie uses one motor and a closed loop to drive the entire Z axis.
The Magpie was designed to be easy to self source from common printers, making the Magpie relatively compatible with other brands.Compatible with Bambu X1 Hotends
Compatible with PINDA probe from Prusa
Compatible with either Prusa i3or Creality Ender 3 heated beds
-
The Frame of the Magpie is mostly printed, and is highly self replicable. No part on the magpie requires supports to be printed
The Magpie’s frame remains rigid despite being mostly printed due to adjustable joints inspired by Japanese wood joinery, which helps to prevent twisting on 3 axis. -
There are numerous mounting points on the Magpie specifically so that others can easily mount future modifications.
Larger and smaller versions of the middle connector pieces are on the development roadmap, allowing users to build larger and smaller Magpies
The Magpie can be built without an enclosure, then easily enclosed after the fact with just a few sheets of acrylic.
